Ah, the secret forbidden romance between teacher and student. It is a theme that is repeatedly called into question by movies, books, and society in general. Should this type of canoodling behind closed doors be acceptable in today’s world? For that matter, should it even be legal?
To start, I should probably clear some things up. We’re talking real romance here folks, not just some 8 year old kid who stares at his teacher with googly eyes and thinks she’s “really pretty.” I mean dramatic, movie-style, making out on a desk forbidden romance. Books and movies such as Notes on a Scandal, Never Been Kissed, and even Mean Girls have planted these fantasies in the forefront of our minds.
Even late night television is getting in on the action. Recently, Tina Fey teamed up with Justin Bieber on SNL to act out a comedic version of the student-teacher relationship. Tina, a middle-aged teacher, falls for her student Justin: “his smile is like watching a baby bunny sniff a tiny flower.” In her fantasy, Justin loves her back, telling her “I’ll buy you a Panini, and some Spanx to make you teeny.” (It’s actually pretty funny, here’s the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1BeJZBSpiA&feature=related .)
Comedy aside, this sort of thing really does happen in real life. I’ve even witnessed some of my own teachers flirting with my classmates. Usually, it is the older women that are on the prowl. They seem to always call on that one gorgeous guy in class and give him better grades, even when his answer is completely wrong.
In today’s culture, there are much bigger problems than morality when a teacher is involved with a student. Statutory rape and other issues such as sexual harassment come into play. In most cases, if the student is under 18, it’s not legal. But should it be?
Personally, I think it’s strange when an older and younger individual get together. That aside, I think it’s crossing the line. It’s extremely similar to getting involved with a coworker. It’s plain unprofessional, and probably not worth the snide whispers behind your back.
It all comes down to what sells and what people want to see. That includes racy student-teacher hookups and forbidden love. No matter what your opinion, you can be sure that the movie industry is not going to stop writing these kinds of scandalous storylines.

I think student/teacher relationships should be legal. First, my homeroom teacher and I have been together for two years now and it is not like in those movies at all. There is no random sex on desks during his prep period, no making out in janitor closets, and no footsies under the desk during class. That’s Hollywood, folks. Get real. If love is true, let it be. There is no reason to stop this if it is professional and pure. He doesn’t give me better grades for it, he doesn’t treat me better than everybody else, and he doesn’t give me special treatment at all during class. I get better grades because I work hard to get them. The government needs to get out of everybody’s personal lives. Seriously? They’re regulating romance.
I also think it should be legal. I am a junior in high school and am now engaged with my former teacher from when I was in 8th grade that I had a huge crush on. I never thought I see him again because he left out of no where but then my freshman year of high school we can into each other at a basketball game, started talking, reconnected, got to know each other. Before I knew it, we were a couple. Not even the most powerful people in this country can stand in the way of true love.
i think it should be legal. if you really like him, let him know and don’t let anyone or anything stop you! love is what the world needs. without it, we feel empty and alone, and if you think love is the most powerful bond between two people, then nothing will stand in your way because of your love for each other. someday everyone will find that special someone to make you happy.
HAHAHAHA that’s just because you slept with your teacher back in the burg
