Inception–We’ll Let You Know When We Figure it Out
About two weeks ago I logged on to Facebook to find about eight identical statuses… more or less like this one: “Inception was such a mindf@*&!!!”
I had seen the trailers, I got that it had to do with Leo and dreams and zero gravity…or something. But honestly, what was the hype about?
My curiosity got the better of me, and I went to see for myself. After two and a half hours of dreams within dreams within dreams, I finally got it. Yes, I felt like my mind had been, well, f*@!ed. And then, as I do all too often, I saw it again. This time, I think the extra 13 bucks was warranted (and, yes, movies are 13 dollars in NYC.) The film has so many layers, hidden meanings and symbols, all leading up to an ambiguous ending. I could try and summarize the film here, but I think it’s something you just have to see for yourself. I will say that there was not a single weak link in a cast featuring Leo DiCaprio, Ellen Page and Joseph Gordon-Levitt among others, and the visuals were simply breathtaking.
Inception is like that wiseass kid from school… you either love it or hate it. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea. Our editor-in-chief felt that the film was way too long. It is long, and it can get confusing… but I was most definitely reeled in. Damn you, Christopher Nolan. And, there’s no denying… the film is a freaking cultural phenomenon. I’ve seen countless articles going over inane theories about the film’s meaning, as well as some quite amusing Youtube videos. Thank you Internet for providing us with endless hilarity. Watch it ensue below:
